I have arrived on the Isle of Portland to take up a residency at Tout Quarry. I'm here with PSQT (Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust) for two weeks, initially, to make my mark on a very large stone.
It is late afternoon and cold when I walk into the park to meet my monolith. I set the self-timer on my camera and awkwardly pose for a photo, wondering whether I've bitten off more than I can chew. I sense she can smell my fear.
The wind is strong, and as loud as the waves crashing on the rocks below. Tomorrow I start carving.
